John Patchett IEA

John Patchett is regarded as one of the country's leading exponents in the art of pastel painting and his love for the vibrancy and freshness of the pastels is a feature of his work.

He is constantly motivated and inspired by everything that surrounds him, not just by marine subjects, coastal locations and the East Anglian landscape, but by the atmosphere, light and feelings he experiences.

From the chaos of a busy shopping street in Norwich to the tranquillity of a quiet corner of the Norfolk Broads are all recorded with sensitivity, energy and enthusiasm. Each painting represents another adventure colour, light and tone and John Patchettdeservedly earns his recognition as a ‘Master Pastelist’.

After attending Grimsby School of Art, Kingston-upon-Thames College of Art and Brighton College of Art, John settled in Adelaide, Australia where he lived for 19 years.

In 1994, he returned to this country, settling in East Anglia where he has easy access to some of his favorite painting locations.

In 2017, John became a full member of The Institute of East Anglian Artists (IEA).

Besides holding over 50 highly successful solo shows in Australia and England, John’s pastel paintings have been exhibited in Japan, New Zealand and with the ‘Pastel Society’, ‘The Royal Society of Marine Artists’, The East Anglian Society of Marine Artists, The Institute of East Anglian Artists. and the ‘Laing Exhibition’ at the Mall Galleries, London, where he was awarded the ‘1997 Guest’s Choice’ prize.
