Christopher Milham

Chris studied art at Rochester College of Art and Design and previously exhibited mainly in Kent, but since moving to Suffolk’s Blyth Valley Chris has been inspired by the light and surrounding area, and still paints as a full time artist at his studio in Henstead. Chris is a member of the Southwold Arts Circle, Beccles Art Society, Easterly Artists and East Suffolk Plein Air Artists.
Chris works in oil, acrylic or watercolour and his paintings are modern contemporary with a little abstract. His paintings are exhibited at Earsham Hall Gallery and Ferini Art Gallery and obviously at his studio!

"As a professional artist my artwork follows the loose impressionist styles of fauvism and the Scottish Colourists, my composed artwork points towards light and colour of modern contemporary that approaches on the side of abstract. With simplified lines, marks and shapes of coastline and landscape, which I am inspired to capture and paint it with an emotional response to the vast East Anglian skies and clouds that drift across the open land and sea.
Putting on the original ground colour I then start fading back to base in different sections of the painting, incorporating fascinating combinations of contemporary colours with a mixture of scumbled with lost and found areas of transparent and opaque paints.
The artists that have inspired my over my painting career are Samuel Peploe (RSA), Joan Eardley (RSA), Anne Redpath (RSA) and Barbara Rae (RA). Adhering to the styles, tones and colour notes of their artworks."
